In this conversation, Sigrid Ivo, curator of the Ivo Collection and former director of Amsterdam’s Tassenmuseum Hendrikje, reflects on the history of bags, collecting and fashion.

RESEARCH NOTE

The Ivo Collection spans more than 500 years of history and comprises over 5,000 pieces. It began in 1996 as a small museum in Sigrid Ivo’s parents’ home and later became the Tassenmuseum Hendrikje, the Museum of Bags and Purses in Amsterdam.

In conversation with Freya Roski, Ivo reflects on collecting, the history of the bag, and the stories held within objects, from the origins of her family’s collection to the acquisition of rare and historically significant pieces.
